Term: November 1998 to November 2014
In 1998 I was elected to the CVUSD School Board, after serving for 25 years as an elementary principal in 3 district schools. As a former principal of a "National Blue Ribbon School" I've tried to bring a commitment and dedication to creating educational excellence and building award winning programs for all district students. I believe JOB ONE for our district is to assure that there is a knowledgeable and skilled teacher in every classroom in every school in CVUSD. Achieving this goal guarantees that all students will reach their educational potential.

I have lived in Thousand Oaks with my husband, Barry, since 1987. We have three children, all graduates of Conejo Valley schools. I grew up in Buffalo, New York, and attained a B.S. Degree in Mathematics from St. Lawrence University. I began my career as a software programmer for IBM and ended as a systems analyst for Mobil Chemical Company.
I have always been an active volunteer in my children’s schools, serving at various times as secretary, treasurer, auditor and president for PFA or PTA. I currently serve on the executive board for Conejo Council and the Twelfth District PTA. I strive to remain involved with the parent community and informed on parental issues.
Since being elected to the School Board in 1998, I have served twice as president, multiple times as clerk to the Board and representative to the Family Life Committee, the Conejo Coalition for Youth and Families and the Committee on School District Organization. I am currently serving on the boards of the Tri-county Education Coalition and the Ventura County School Boards Association. Last spring I was inducted into Delta Kappa Gamma, the education honorary.

I am married to a special education teacher. We have two children in this school district. I work for the Los Angeles City Fire Department and am assigned to a paramedic assessment engine company. I bring an independent voice to the board - someone who whenever possible tries to accommodate the wishes of the parents and taxpayers. My mission is excellent public schools and promoting traditional family values without property tax increases.

Term: November 2008 to November 2012
Peggy Buckles grew up in the Midwest and graduated from Parsons College with a BA in Education. She taught kindergarten and second grade in Port Byron, New York and moved to California after her marriage to her husband, Bob. Peggy and Bob have two children who graduated from CVUSD schools. Peggy volunteered in her children’s classrooms from the time they started school. She is a past president of the Colina Middle School PTA, held nearly every position on the Westlake High PTA, and was Conejo Council PTA president.
Peggy has served on the 12th District (Ventura County) PTA for over 12 years. She also served on the Ventura County School Attendance Review Board, The Ventura County School-to-Career Committee, the Ventura County Youth Council and the Tri-County Education Coalition where she is a past president. Peggy currently serves on the Parent Involvement Commission for the California State PTA and the Coordinated School Health Committee with the American Cancer Society as well as the CVUSD Coordinated School Health Committee.
Mrs. Buckles’ goals for the district include updating the technology infrastructure and prudent fiscal management so that the educational needs of all students in the Conejo can be met.

I am a veterinarian by training and currently teach in the Equine Science Department at Pierce College and in the Biology Department at Moorpark College. I received my Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Colorado State University and my Bachelors of Science in Biology from University of Denver. After graduation, I worked for a short time in research followed by eighteen years in private equine practice.
After closing my practice, I was able to increase my involvement in the Conejo schools. Leadership roles in the PTA, District Advisory Council and Band Boosters, along with my experience as a parent of two CVUSD graduates, has allowed me to see our school district from multiple perspectives.
I am looking forward to working with fellow board members, district staff and members of the community in our shared effort to remain focused on what is good for children.
