Drop-In Student Help and Test Make-Up

Redwood Middle School is excited to announce a structured drop in tutoring program before school, during lunch, and after school throughout the week. Please refer to the schedule for times, teachers and locations in the core academic areas. Students still can make arrangements with their individual teachers for assistance at an agreed upon time.

Healthy Tip Tuesday

When it’s time to perform really important tasks like taking STAR tests, everyone seems to remind you to get plenty of rest and to eat breakfast – both really good ideas because we need to be well rested and have fuel to work on.

And. . . . .  you won’t want to forget the other two essentials for peak brain performance - - - water and physical activity.

Be sure to drink water in the morning before you come to school and all day long to keep your brain working at its best.

Physical activity is the other key to peak performance - - make sure you and your friends are getting a fun 60 minutes each day – that way you’ll feel great and be prepared for your best performance ever!

Congratulations Redwood Middle School!

Over the past two weeks, Redwood has received some outstanding news which highlights our commitment to student excellence and achievement. First, the California Department of Education released the Academic Performance Index (API) for the 2011-2012 school year. Redwood’s final API is 900. This score marks the first time that any secondary school in the Conejo Valley Unified School District has broken the 900 threshold. Redwood Middle School has the second highest API of all middle schools in the entire Ventura County as well as the third highest API of all secondary schools in Ventura County.

Following this outstanding news, Dr. Jeff Baarstad, School District Superintendent, was notified by the California Department of Education that Redwood Middle School has been nominated for California Distinguished School status. Eligibility for this prestigious honor is based on school API scores as well as documented evidence of Closing the Achievement Gap for our identified subgroup populations within our school. Redwood has been asked to submit two signature practices that are a reflection of Redwood’s commitment to student progress and achievement.

The successes mentioned above are a direct reflection of the hard work and effort demonstrated by the entire Viking family: Students committed to doing their best in and out of the classroom on a daily basis. Teachers as individuals and as collaborative groups focused on delivering rigorous and relevant instruction through a variety of instructional strategies and modalities. Classified staff members committed to providing students with a safe, clean and caring environment every day. A strong parent support system that is involved, active and committed to the overall success of Redwood Middle School. These recognitions and achievements are not to be taken lightly. Everyone in the Viking family is responsible for the success of Redwood Middle School! Congratulations and Go Vikings!
