About Mrs. Shihabi

Hi, and welcome to my website. My name is Mrs. Shihabi and I teach 7th grade social studies. I am a native southern Californian. I grew up in the San Fernando Valley - yes, I am a valley girl. I received my undergraduate and graduate degrees from Cal State University Northridge. I have been teaching for 20 years (doesn't seem possible) and I have been a Colina Cougar for the past nine years. My husband and I have lived in Thousand Oaks since 1994, and we are raising three children - ages 13, 11, and 7.

In  my spare time, I enjoy reading and running. I am also a huge Dodger fan, and although they had a pathetic season, I will continue to root for them. Hey, there's always next year.

In 7th grade, we cover history from the fall of the Roman Empire to the Enlightenment. It's interesting, rich, and full of drama. I look forward to an exciting and successful year with you.

We have completed our first unit of the year about the fall of Rome and the Byzantine Empire and we are moving right along into our second unit, Islam. For most students, Islam is a religion they know very little about, so there are lots of great questions and discussions. We compare and contrast Islam with Judaism and Christianity and students are usually surprised to find out how much these three religions have in common. There are many new terms and concepts to learn, so please review with your child regularly. After Islam, we will study medieval Africa.

My room is open every Monday and Thursday at lunch.  It's a great chance for you to get extra help. If you have questions, or you are struggling with any assignment, take advantage of this opportunity.
